The Lord's Blessings

This weekend we had the greatest scare of our lives. I even debated whether to post it or not--because I don't want to take lightly what happened AT ALL, but I decided it would be a good way to express gratitude to the Lord publicly as well as to bear testimony of the watchful care of the Lord.
As you can see in the picture, Jackson's favorite spot to play is by our window. Well last night we had some people coming over so I wanted to cool down the house. I went to open our patio door but decided I didn't want bugs in the house, so without thinking twice I opened the window. The next thing we new, I was making dinner and we heard Jackson crying from a distance, like he shut himself in a room or something. The cry wasn't abnormal, but we soon realized that he had fallen out of the window! We are on the 2nd story (here is a picture of the complex to help you get the idea) so the fall was about 10 feet. I have never been so scared! I ran out of the apartment screaming hysterically (loud enough that our friends who live on the other side of the building came over to check on us) and Justin jumped out of the window. We picked him up and brought him back in and calmed him down with his Binky and blanket. We checked his body for anything abnormal and for tender spots. We checked his head and his eyes to see in they were dilated normal... he seemed to be completely fine, no scratches and only a tiny bruise on the left side of his abdomen. From what we could tell, he hadn't hit his head. The way Justin found him was face down on his stomach, and he landed in some tall grass from the landscape. He calmed down right away and got down, started to walk around, play, laugh, and clap his hands. We were SO scared, but he was OK and that we were incredibly grateful for! We immediately got on our knees to give a prayer of thanks because it could have been tragic. We woke him up in the night to see how he was doing, and everything seemed fine. The next day he was his normal BUSY self. I took him into the E.R. to just make sure, and they said everything looked great on him. Even the doctor said, "I'm not going to use the word lucky, I'm going to use the word blessed. There must have been angels there to catch him."
I'm still shaken up about the whole thing, and mad at myself for even opening that STUPID window, but incredibly grateful to my Lord for watching out for us... I don't know what I would have done if it would have been worse.
(and btw for anyone who lives in these buildings, watch out for those windows... they are built really stupid the way they go clear to the ground).
At church he fell down and hit his face on the pew and got a pretty good bruise below his right eye. (you can't really see it in this picture but it's worse in person) After falling out of a 2 story window he got a worse mark falling down at church! WOW, I can't say it enough how blessed we truly are!!

Oh my Haley I am so sorry! I almost started crying reading the post I can't imagine how you must have felt. There must have been an angel or two down there to break his fall. Thank goodness for the Lord's tender mercies and blessings in our lives!

holy cow! that is the saddest craziest story I have heard in a long time! I would have totally freaked out! I was afraid to even keep reading the post for fear of what the outcome would be! I am so glad that he was okay! What a miracle!
Someone once told me that it is a miracle that anyone lives past the age of 3 because honestly little kids are quite the scary little dare-devils and are always doing scary things. I for sure agree with the doctor about those angels!

I am really sorry that you had to go through that. Sometimes the Lord has to give us little reminders that he is in control. I remember when I was in a car accident with Addy and the feeling of sheer panic. It is a terrible feeling but then it makes us turn to the Lord.
I am glad you shared that story because even reading it made me feel the spirit. Being mom isn't easy and is a constant learning experience, isn't it? I bet Jackson won't ever remember this but you will for the rest of your life. And you will remember that angels must have played a part in your little miracle. I love you!!

Oh my goodness Haley and Justin! I am SO glad that Jackson is okay and was being watched over! I KNOW that must have been so scary for you guys. I agree to about the angels. Hopefully the angels will stay around and protect ALL our kids FOREVER!! You guys are so blessed and I am happy to see Jackson back to himself. I have a picture of Carson when he was Jackson's age with 3 bruises/scratches on his face from falling and just being a boy. Love you guys!!

The day we were moving in we had the windows open and one of the older kids (8yrs) accidently knocked out the screen. From then on i never opened the windows more than a few inches because you just never know. I know that we have all been worried about that happening and i am SO THANKFUL that he is alright. My goodness you have a lot to be thankful for! I am worried that since Jayden can open the windows i will have the same thing happen... that she'll open it without me noticing and Hadley will fall out.

Oh Hay... how scary. I can only imagine the panick and fear you must've felt as you ran out to him!! I'm so glad he's alright. What a true blessing!!! Love you guys!

Oh my goodness. I cannot even believe that. How blessed you are is right! That is an amazing story and I have no doubt that you are right...the Lord was looking out for him. Remember Elder Holland's talk in conference about the angels constantly surrounding us? No doubt there were angels there to catch Jackson. Thanks for posting, that is incredible and testimony building.

Haylee, I am so glad Jackson was okay! That is so scary. I think your doctor was right, that he was caught by angels. Your post makes me cry! I am so glad he is okay! He is just too curious! Love you all!

Haylee I'm glad you made a post out of it. It's like when Steph and Cory went through Hurricane Ike. It helps others feel your testimony. DO NOT blame yourself Haylee. AND I really think someone needs to talk to the manager of those apartmetns. They are NOT up to code....and if it had been worse, they could have a huge law suit. Jackson might get sick of all the hugs and kisses from everyone but give him one more from Grandma J. And call your managers or send a note to them.

I am so glad that lil' Jack-man is ok. It is amazing how Heavenly Father cares for us, his children. How his tender mercies follow us around all of our lives. A similar thing happened in our family. My cousin fell out of an apartment window when she was around 2. 2nd floor as well. The Lord was merciful and kind to her as well. I told Donna that Walmart has these cheap baby gates, around $10. You could put a baby gate in the window frame. That way, you could get air & security. And Donna is right, your building is not up to code. New buildings cannot be built with those kind of windows anymore. There has to be safety percautions taken. Ever since Eric Clapton's son fell out of a 3rd story window. I am glad all are ok. And Mom......don't feel guilty. I know, easier said than done, but all things happen for a reason. We are not sure of the reason, nor may ever be, but we do know that the Lord was glorified & magnified in this instance!!!!! I give him all the praise, honor and glory for taking care of your lil' Jack-man. Be blessed. Give that lil' man many hugs & mooches from us all. Be blessed. Cheryl

I read the previous post "Fall is in the air" the day Justin called me and I thought that it was going to be this story. I'm really glad Jackson is ok and that everything checked out ok at the ER. Heavenly Father must have made kids durable because he knew they'd fall off of beds, chairs, stages, and out of windows.
