For those who don't care about the details of the birth, you can by pass this entry... however if you are a girl, you probably want to read it! :) (At least I like to hear other peoples stories)
I was having a lot of contractions most of the day on Friday but they were never consistent. Friday night we had our ward Halloween party and I was determined to go to that. I wanted Jackson to have a fun Halloween, so I was hoping I wouldn't go into labor before the party. We were able to go and while there I noticed that the contractions were getting pretty hard and I was almost certain they were the real deal. We got home and I told Justin that I thought we needed to go to the hospital. I started to time them about an hour before we went and they were pretty consistent at 7 mins apart. We got to the hospital around 8pm and once we got to the hospital they started to slow down and I thought, great they are going to send me home. Luckily they checked my progression and I was dilated to a 4, so they knew the contractions were doing something. They called the Dr and he said they could admit me and if I needed pain meds in the night I could get them, then he would come in the morning and start me on PIT.
We got in our room at 10:00pm and hoped we could get some sleep. Justin fell asleep around midnight. I of course couldn't sleep because the contractions were getting PAINFUL! I finally decided around 1am that I needed something for pain. I called the nurse in and she checked me and I was at a 6. She then gave me some drug through my IV and it did some weird stuff to me... I started to go psycho and loopy. I was saying the weirdest things and felt so out of it. Justin called the nurse in and told her I wasn't acting normal and she said this drug occasionally did this to some patients. (It was weird because the whole time I remember what was going on, I just couldn't control anything). About an hour later the anesthesiologist came in to give me the epidural and I remember just freaking out because I knew I was still pretty loopy from this other drug. I was shaking my head and saying, "No, I don't feel normal. Is it okay to get the epidural? I don't feel normal." I was afraid to get it and have something go wrong and me not being all there. But I got it and finally the other drug started to wear off.
The nurse checked me after giving me the epidural and I was at an 8. I don't think the epidural ever truly kicked in because I still felt quite a bit of pressure and pain during my contractions. I finally called the nurse in and told her I was feeling pressure, she checked me and I was fully dilated and ready to push.
The Dr got there and his head was right there (with all his hair!) I pushed through 3 contractions and he entered the world at 4:42am.
You can't see it very well here, but the scale said 6lbs 4 oz... our little guy!
Proud Daddy: Mommy in love at first sight:(I look horrible... I think that is because it was 4:42AM and I hadn't slept at all, oh and the fact that I just gave birth!) :)
