**WARNING, long detailed post for our own records (but quite the story if you dare to read on...)**
We were very excited to enjoy a 2 week vacation in Idaho... little did we know how it would really play out. On Tuesday Jackson and Justin started coming down with a really nasty cold. It came on hard and especially hard for Jackson. He was miserable and wouldn't even act like himself. All he wanted to do was be with someone and sit and watch TV or movies. He was cranky, whiny, and hard to deal with... but he was SICK, so no one could blame him for that. He had the worst cough, a constant runny yucky nose, and a fever.
Then, Wednesday Jonah started to come down with that nasty cough and that is when I started getting nervous. I knew that it could turn bad quickly in our little guy. We took them both to the doctor.
Days went on and it continued. Jackson was completely miserable and Jonah was starting to turn for the worse. I did a little research and my suspicions was that it wasn't just any common cold and that it was likely RSV.
Sunday Jonah gave us quite the scare as he started to become extremely lethargic, wouldn't eat, and lost all the color in his body. We rushed him to the Dr who checked his oxygen levels and gave him 2 breathing treatments. He didn't get any better and so the Dr ordered him to the hospital so they could monitor him there.
They hooked him up to an IV and got him on oxygen right away. They also tested him for RSV which came back positive. No good.
He stayed in the hospital for 3 days. The first day they couldn't hear anything in his lungs but they later figured that it must have been SO tight that they couldn't hear anything because the following days it must have started breaking up and they could hear the junk in his lungs. We were finally able to take him home on oxygen and a machine to monitor his levels. (All the while, Jackson I am sure had RSV as well and was really really sick. Justin did so good taking care of him as he was sick himself. My family was also a HUGE help with putting up with Jackson and helping care for him. Oh and one of the days we were in the hospital my mom was sick with the stomach flu)
The evening Jonah got released I started to throw up about every 10 minutes. Great, the stomach flu!! I was sick that whole night and following day (thanks to Justin who took complete care of Jonah and thanks to my mom who took care of me all hours of the night)
Jackson FINALLY turned the corner after a good 10 days or so of sickness, and Jonah was basically only on oxygen during the night. Justin still didn't feel good and after I got done with the stomach flu I started up with the "cold"
The Dr said that the only way we would be able to go home with Jonah on our scheduled flight was to work it out to fly him with the oxygen. Our other option was to stay about a week and make sure he was fully recovered. We changed my flight for a week later (with a little bit of a fight with the airlines) so I would fly back with Jonah. Justin and Jackson were going to fly back on our scheduled flight so Justin could start school on Monday. Justin's wonderful mother offered to come take care of Jackson while Just was at school.
Friday came (the day they were to fly home) and both Justin and I were awake in the night with diarrhea and stomach cramps. I couldn't believe it! About 6:00 that morning Justin started throwing up. I know, I know... are you kidding me?! Could this get any worse?! There was no way Justin was flying home with the stomach flu, with a two year old. Once again I got on the phone with the airlines to make yet some more changes.
SHEESH! The story finally seems to end as Justin and Jackson left this afternoon, Jonah finally went without oxygen last night and is now completely off it, and everyone seems to be healthy as of now (with the exception of my "cold")
Some Vacation.
However through all the bad we realize how blessed we really were:
1- The Dr we were working with is a family friend and did this all NO CHARGE! It is one of those situations were you feel so extremely grateful but guilty at the same time. He is so kind!!
2- We were nervous about the hospital bill and not being able to get our out of state insurance to cover it. We called the insurance and because it was an emergency situation they are going to cover it and we worked with the hospital to make sure they will accept it! That was a huge relief! (and hopefully the Dr too will be able to get paid some way too)
3- The "home care" company we chose (who provided the oxygen) also gave us everything no charge because we were from out of state.
4- The timing was actually good because I don't know what I would do if I had to do it in Memphis by myself while Justin was in school
5- My family was an AMAZING help and support to us
6- And MOST IMPORTANTLY our boys were able to recover and are healthy.

OH MY GOODNESS Hay. I don't even know what to say. I am so sorry that you had to go through all of that. One thing after another...and having Jonah in the hospital. That is so scary. Having sick babies scares the crap out of me. I am SO glad you had your family there to help you, honestly that is such a huge blessing along with the other things you named. I am glad you are on the upswing. Love you.
Oh my gosh! I'm so glad everyone is feeling better! That is so not fun but perfect timing to be at home with your family!! What comfort!
I'm so sorry! What an awful, awful experience. You all deserve to be exempt from any sickness for the rest of the year! What amazing blessings happened during the experience though. I hope you are all on the mend.
WOW!!! What a crazy holiday you and your family experienced!!! I'm so sorry you all had to go through all of that! I'm glad to hear that everyone is feeling much better... especially little Jonah! I would be so scared to have a sick baby and have him in the hospital for 3 days! I'm so glad you had your family around to help though!!!
Wow, that's a lot of sickness. I'm sorry everything happened like that all at once! I was talking with my mom about how I wishes Christmas was during the summer instead. We managed to get by without getting sick this year, but it seems like normally somebody is throwing up at the Christmas party. No fun.
How scary! I am always so worried about RSV! Some much stuff shouldn't happen that close together! What an awesome attitude that you have!
I think it's so wonderful that you can see the blessings from such a rotten experience. You are an example! I'm grateful for your family (all family) for those who took such good care..and I'm glad I can be down here to help with Jackson!!
Wow child! You poor thing ! That is quite the story... I am glad you are all feeling better!!!
That is so scary and stressful! You really appreciate your health when you get sick! I am glad you are feeling better and that little Jonah is okay!
It was a lot of no good yuckiness right in a row for you guys!! No fair that it came on your vacation too. i I'm just so glad that little Jonah didn't have worse complications!
that is insane. you are so good for listing the positive at the end because - those things really were so lucky. but still - stinky stinky vacation. good to hear you are all on the mend.
I can't believe that really happened! That was my worst nightmare traveling. Jason told me about it and I almost cried for you! I'm so glad everything is okay now and you two will be back soon. I know your mother-in-law is here but let me know if you need anything!!
I hope you all stay healthy and get better!!!!!
Gees Haylee. I just kept thinking that sometime the horrible story would end. It was like a movie... climax after climax. I am so glad that you all are almost all the way healthy and normal and that tiny little Jonah was such a little trooper. Oh, my eyes teared up seeing your little guy at the hospital. SO sad. You ALL were troopers. Family is the best! What would we do with out them?! Hope this new year treats you TONS better!
I don't think you had those pictures up the last time I looked (or maybe my computer didn't load them). How sad to see your tiny baby on such a big hospital bed! I'm glad everyone is feeling better now.
